Krystle, 8th cousin, 1x removed. Krystle was a big surprise. There is a slight back story with her's- 

I did Krystle's family tree for her last summer when she came to visit me from out of state. While doing the research, I discovered we had a common relative on her mom's side...this common relative wasn't blood, but by marriage.

Then, when I got this app, Krystle popped up again, but as my 8th cousin, 1x Removed. Again, it was through my mom's side of the family (Mendenhall) but it was completely different line, which is really neat!

Valerie, 8th Cousin. Valerie was very similar to Krystle, a big shocker. Valerie is actually my husband's second cousin, which is why she's on my Facebook and why she's in my tree already. So, when she popped up on this app, I expected it to say something like: "Husband's 2nd cousin" or something, but it said 8th cousin. She's actually my husband's 2nd cousin and MY 8th cousin on my mom's side (Mendenhall)!!!

So, I'm calling this one a-- NOPE!

The "We're Related" App

Since I just started blogging again and I've been using the We're Related app for a couple of weeks now, I have quite a few blog posts to make to catch up!

I LOVE the idea of the We're Related app by Ancestry.com (naturally). I found out about it through Randy Seaver (Genea-Musings) and love getting my daily updates (sometimes 2 of them!).

For those of you who don't know what the app is, if you're in the genealogy-world, I'm surprised. But either way, if you haven't heard of it, it's just an app on your smartphone that uses your Ancestry.com tree to connect you to celebrities (past & present). Some may just take it as it is- trust the work of Ancestry.com, but I take it with a grain of salt...I always check the facts and the people they suggest. I have found 2 so far that I just cannot connect or take as true... I'll explain when I blog about those 2 celebrities...

Ruth Eileen Mendenhall, born 1927

Good Morning, Happy Friday!

I know I did a blog post about my great aunt one time, but for whatever reason, I am having trouble locating it...either way, more information has been found and I would love to share it!

Backstory:

Ruth was my grandfather's younger sister. She was born on 16 Jan 1926 in Dayton, Ohio to Earl Dwight Mendenhall (1894-1972) and Edna Grace Niles (1894-1934). The story in my family is that she was kicked out of the house at the age of 14, it is assumed because she was pregnant. My great-grandparents destroyed all photos of her and basically erased her from the family. One photo was found behind a dresser at one point in time, a school picture of Ruth and her third grade class in 1935.

Apparently, the family tried to locate Ruth later in life by hiring a private investigator. I assume this was taken place after her parents had passed. She was discovered living in California, married to a doctor. And, she didn't want to be found, so that was the end. I don't know how much of this is true or not.

For years, this is all the information I had for Ruth. I craved more because her story facsinated me! I wanted to know if she really had a child at 14/15 years old, if she had really married a doctor or if she had any other children.

THEN, on September 23, of this year, I decided to try digging more, since it had been a couple of years and I found her!

Ruth was married to Jack V. Breckenridge (1921-2011), a veteran. They are buried together in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Section A7, Row B, Site 32. I tried to find a newspaper article, an obituary, SOMETHING on their family, but it appears they never had children. I couldn't find a child born around 1941 either.

One interesting fact, that I had to laugh at, was that she was born in Dayton, Ohio (so was I) and then she died in Arizona. I have no idea how long she lived in Arizona, but I great up there, about 2 hrs North of Scottsdale.

I'm back from a long break!

Hi Readers,

Well, it's been about 8 months since I've written a post. A lot has happened that has really eaten up my time!

In March, I found out we were expecting our second child- she's almost due, Dec. 31...and yes, it's a girl! I couldn't be happier! 

Between that time and now, my family and I have moved from Colorado to California where my husband has a new job/career change. He's training for his commercial pilots license, which is his dream job. 

We, unfortunately, don't have a place of our own yet, even though we've been in California since August. We are living with my in-laws which has been quite an adjustment. 

As far as this blog goes, I haven't even looked at the stats until now- and am so happy so many people still view it! Genealogy is still a huge passion of mine and I still try to do research everyday. I'm hoping to start blogging again. I miss it.

Well, I hope you are all doing well and had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I will try to do a new Genealogy blog post in the next day or so!
