The Family Tree Gravestone of LeRay Sant & Mary Perry Howell

I came across this gravestone just browsing interesting gravestones on Google-- boredom at it's best can turn into fun research projects!

This is the gravestone of LeRay Sant Howell (1910-1998) & his wife Mary Perry (1914-2000). It's located in the Salt Lake City Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah, Plot # West_13_128_4E.

I love the fact that the stone itself is a massive tree but what really makes it interesting and unique is the backside of the stone:

LeRay and Mary had 8 children: 4 daughters and 4 sons. They had 54 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. The backside of this stone shows their children, their spouses with marriage dates and then their children's children. I think it's absolutely beautiful!

If you're having trouble reading the stone, here's a breakdown from bottom of the tree, up and around to the left (clock-wise):

Genealogy Bucket-List Locations, Part 2

Any one person has the potential to have 2,048 11th Great-Grandparents. Who can actually say that they know where their 11th great-grandparents are buried? I can...and this location, is definitely on my list of places to see!

Thomas Mildenhall (1630-1682) & Joane Strode (1634-1682) are my 11th Great-Grandparents. I don't know the circumstances of their death(s) but I do know that they died the same year in 1682. I also know that they are buried in the Holy Cross Churchyard in Ramsbury, England.

Holy Cross Churchyard

The Holy Cross Churchyard is located in Ramsbury, Wiltshire, England. The coordinates are: 51.44250, -1.60722.

According to Findagrave.com, there are 2,185 memorials, including one famous memorial of a Francis Burdett V (1770-1844). It's only 9% photographed with 51 open photo requests, makes me wonder if photography of any sort is allowed?

My ancestors are buried here--- someday I'll get to see what their gravestones look like.

Enjoy the photos that I found on Google.com

Saturday Night Genealogy Fun- Genea-Musings 8/31/2024

 Saturday Night Genealogy Fun

Last night's genealogy fun/question was: Which Family Members Stayed in Contact With Your Family?

Here's the link: Genea-Musings

This question is particularly interesting for me and my family because most of the family hasn't moved away. Both my parents' families for the most part have had generations born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. My dad was one of 8 children and then my mom was one of 4.

When I was 4 (1988), my family and I moved to Texas and then in 1991, we moved to Humboldt, Arizona. My uncle (father's side) living in Arizona, in Phoenix, so I think that was a plus for my dad.

I don't really remember life before in Ohio because I was too young...but I know that we saw extended family often (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins)...birthday parties, holidays, etc. After we moved, the only grandparent I had left was my paternal grandmother Dorothy. I used to talk to her on the phone sometimes and then I remember her sending us McDonald's Gift Certificates in the mail for birthdays. On my mom's side, my aunt would send us birthday and Christmas cards. We also had some aunts and uncles and cousins come out to visit sometimes.

As I grew into adulthood and got into genealogy, I started reaching out to extended family on my own- email, Facebook, etc. I wanted to meet more and more people but it was only through online because I was still on the West coast.

Two years ago, my dad and I started organizing a family reunion for his side of the family in Ohio along with his half-brother. Sometime into planning, my dad had a heart attack and passed away at the young age of 72. It broke my heart completely but I still wanted to attend the reunion and 11 months later, my twin sister and I went to Ohio (for the first time in years!) and reunited with so many family members- many I knew and had met when I was young and some I just knew from their online presence and was meeting them for the first time in person- that was exciting!

Genealogy Bucket-List Locations, Part 1

Aldbourne-St. Michael Parish Church

On 12 Aug 1649, my 11th Great-Grandparents Thomas Mildenhall (1630-1682) & Joane Strode (1634-1682) were married at this gorgeous medieval church in Aldbourne, Marlborough, England. The church was built over-time but started in the 12th century.
