One Person at a Time...Ardelia

~Even though I have a lot of people in my family tree, I also have a lot of "holes" that need more research. Over the next few months, I am going to attempt to patch up those holes by doing research one person at a time- starting at the beginning of the list~


Today's name: Ardelia

Before Research:

Ardelia A. was born in May 1862 in North Carolina and died in 1944 in Hamilton County, Indiana. She married William H. Hoover (1861-1945) in 1888- he was my 3rd great grand uncle. They had 5 children: 
Harrison (b. 1889)
Un-named Daughter (b. 1891; d. 1891)
Elsie (b. 1895)
Un-named Daughter (b. 1896; d. 1896)
Ethel (b. 1899)


After Research:

Ardilla Ann "Dilly" Cotner was born in May 1862 in Chatham County, North Carolina and died in 1944 in Hamilton County, Indiana. 
Her parents were Owen Cotner (1833-1920) & Mary Jane Hinshaw (1842-1930) and she had 4 brothers- Henry Zeno (b. 1864), Alfred (b. 1871), Harvey (b. 1876) and Robert Clay (b. 1881). 
Dilly married William Henry Hoover (1859-1945) on 20 May 1888 in Hamilton County, Indiana. His parents were Alexander Hoover (1832-1913) & Rebecca J. Ridge (1830-1900). Dilly and William had 5 children (same as listed above).

Harold was the oldest of 5 boys and the second Nixon child to die of Tuberculosis- TB. His mother took him to Prescott, Arizona for the drier climate in order to save his life, but he died at the age of 24. 

Harold was brought home to Whittier, California and buried in the Rose Hills Memorial Park Cemetery:

Antoinette L. was born in June 1920 and died in June 2001. She married Walter A. Dabuliewicz (1918-1995)- my great grand uncle.


After Research:
Antoinette LeBlanc was born on 26 Jun 1929 in Gardner, Worcester, Massachusetts and died on 28 Jun 2001 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. She was buried in Notre Dame Cemetery in Gardner, Massachusetts. Her parents were Albert LeBlanc (1889-1972) & Marie Louise Duteau (1893-1948). Albert was born in Canada.
Antoinette had 4 siblings-

When looking at old photos, I think it's interesting to go with the quote- Don't judge a book by it's cover- same thing for photos- don't judge a person by it's picture- this one is included in that. I'm not sure what I think of Abbie. On one hand, she looks super strict and overbearing. Rules, rules, rules. But there's something about her face- her eyes, her "smile" that make me think otherwise. For whatever reason this is, I feel like she looks gentle in nature, plain and simple. I think my mother kind of looks like her- especially the thin lips- definitely not the nose. :)

Before Research:
I didn't know Annie's birth or death date. She married Frederick Minall (b. 1893) and they had at least 1 son: Frederick Minall (b. 1914). 

After Research:
Annie Britton was born about 1897 in England and died in 1950 in Norton, England. I couldn't find anything on Annie's parents. She married Frederick Minall (1893-1966) in 1913 in Bristol, England. Frederick is my 12th cousin, 6x removed. They had 5 children:

Since I missed last week because I was sick, I'm just gonna pick up where I left off! Looking at the list on The Olive Tree Genenalogy, it appears most of the list has been removed due to the fact that she has condensed it to a book- Check out Lorine McGinnis Schulze's new book- Writing Your Memoirs For Descendants.



I will just start off at the top of the list she has posted on her blog :) 

Sharing Memories Week 1: Kindergarten Days:

I don't know if I should share this on the web, but I'm going to anyways! I failed Kindergarten. It's embarrassing, I know. My twin sister failed as well and that's the reasoning why~ the school that we went to in Texas didn't feel we were socially ready for the 1st grade because we only communicated with each other. So, the second year, they separated us into two different classes and we did better! 

Above are two pictures from Kindergarten- 89 & 90. I went to a school called Double File Trail in Round Rock Texas. I remember going to school early and watching Gummi Bears in the library. I don't know if this was every morning or if it was very rare, but I do remember it well! I loved that show! 

I don't remember too much from those years- Gummi Bears, the playground and then I remember we had to wear this necklace around our neck whenever we needed to go to the bathroom- I'm assuming if we got lost in the hallway, someone could help direct us how to get back to our classroom.

I have 3 individual's in my tree with the name "Anna". 


#1: Anna
Before Research:
Anna was born in 1630. She married Bernhard Dusing (b. 1620) and they had at least 1 son: Heinrich Dusing (b. 1649). 

After Research:
I wasn't able to find too much for Anna. She was born in Kirchspiel, Germany and married about 1645 in Emsburen, Germany. She had 3 sons:
Heinrich (b. abt 1649)
Wilhelm (b. abt 1654)
Gerhard  (b. abt 1656)


#2: Anna Catherine
Before Research:
I didn't know Anna's birth or death dates. She was married to Charles Peter Smithburg and they had at least 1 daughter- Albertina Smithburg (b. 1846)- who married Lewis Mendenhall - distant cousin of mine.

After Research:
Anna Catharine Persdotter was born about 1800 in Sweden and died in 1869 in Iowa. She married Petter Smithburg (1801-1848) about 1834 in Sweden. They had 4 children in Sweden and then came to America. Their children were:

#3: Anna L.
Before Research:
Anna L. was born in 1886 in Missouri. She married Albert Hendricks (b. 1880)- my 1st cousin, 3x removed. They had at least 1 son: Donald G. Hendricks (b. 1908).

After Research:
Unfortunately I was unable to find Anna's last name (Yet). I did find out that she had another child- a daughter- Alberta Hendricks, born 1918 in Indiana.
