Leslie Ward Mendenhall Jr. was born on September 20, 1920 in Fort Worth, Texas to Leslie Ward Mendenhall (1892-1975) and Viola Herring (1895-1973). He didn't have any siblings that I could find.
Leslie married June Helen McCord (1921-2008) and they had 3 children: Melinda, June Anne, and Leslie Ward III.
Leslie attended the Texas Christian University in 1940 where he played baseball.

Leslie died at the age of 81 on March 12, 2002 in Arlington, Texas. He is buried beside his wife in the Greenwood Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Fort Worth, Texas.
