Chaminade High School, Class of 1932, Senior Group D

Welcome to Chaminade High School in Dayton, Ohio This is the 4th (and very delayed) post pertaining to the class of 1932. You can read the previous post by clicking Here.

Group D:




Teacher: Bro. Edward Lynch, S.M.

1. Stephen Aponyi "Al Capone"

Stephen Joseph Aponyi Jr. "Steve" was born on 24 Jul 1914 in Dayton, Ohio to Stephen Joseph Aponyi Sr. and Irma Forro.
By 1940, Steve was married to Mary E. (Illes) and working as a shipping clerk at the National Foundry and Furnace Company. In the 1950 U.S. census, Steve and Mary have 3 children. 
Stephen died on 17 Sep 1998 in Trotwood, Ohio at the age of 84. He and Mary had 3 children: Rosemarie, Mary Ann and Stephen Guy.
Steven and his wife Mary are buried together in Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio.




2. Asa Brand "Bob"

Robert Asa Brand (also went by Asa Felix Brand) was born on 02 May 1915 in Louisiana to Felix Brand and Carmelite Hurst. In 1940, Asa was still living with his parents, but he was married to Elsie and working as a salesman. 
By 1950, Asa was married to Frances C. Miller and they have 4 children.
Asa died on 30 Apr 1993 at the age of 78. He and Frances had 4 children together- James, Richard, Connie and Patricia. 
Asa and Frances are buried together in the Fred Hunter's Hollywood Memorial Gardens East Cemetery in Hollywood, Florida. 






3. Paul Brinck 
Paul Joseph Brinck was born on 18 Apr 1914 in Dayton, Ohio to William Joseph Brinck and Clara Marie Schad. 

Paul died on 21 Jun 1947 at the age of 33. The cause of death-- carbon monoxide poisoning from a gas leak at the family cottage- his father William also passed away, being that they were together at the cottage. 

Paul wasn't married and had no children. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. 




4. Joseph Brown "Joe"

Joseph Michael Brown was born on 23 Mar 1914 in Dayton, Ohio and was the son of Micheal Brown and Catharine McMann.

Joe married Ruby Evelyn Geary on 28 Dec 1938 in Indiana. In 1940, Joe and his wife owned their own home and he was working as a meat salesman. By 1950, Joe and Ruby had a son, Robert J. They would later have one more child, a daughter named Judy. 

Joe died on 07 Mar 1989 at the age of 74 and is buried beside his wife Ruby at Crest Lawn Cemetery in Cookeville, Tennessee.





5. Joseph Chmiel "Joe"

Joseph Stanley Chmiel was born on 07 Sep 1913 in Dayton, Ohio to Louis J. Chmiel and Catherine Jurek. 

Joseph married Frances V. Brzozowski in 1941.

Joseph died on 18 Jun 1996 at the age of 82 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Joseph and Frances are buried in the Saint Francis Catholic Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona. He had one child with his wife Frances, a son names Joseph J. 




6. Louis J. Couvion "Louie"

Louis Jacob "Jake" Couvion was born on 08 Sep 1913 in Los Angeles, California to Charles Edward Couvion and Anna Mary Neibert. 

Louis married Beatrice "Betty Jane" Holtgreven in 1944 and they had 2 children: Thomas and Sharon.

Louis died on 28 Nov 2003 at the age of 90 and is buried with his wife in Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio.










7. John F. Crown "Jack"

John Francis Crown was born on 06 May 1914 in Dayton, Ohio to Thomas Crown and Delia McHugh.
In 1940, John was working as a Timekeeper at a manufacturing shop/plant. He was unmarried and living with his widowed mother. By 1950, he was still living with his mother, job unknown.

John died on 05 Mar 1976 at the age of 62. He never married. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Springfield, Ohio.




8. Louis L. Day "Louie"

Louis Lavern Day was born on 03 May 1914 in Dayton, Ohio, son of John M. Day and Rose Worman.

Louis married Ruth Marlon Power in 1937 and they had at least 3 daughters- Diana R., Carol A., Kathleen E.


Louis died on 26 Jun 1992 in Dayton at the age of 78. He and his wife Ruth are buried together in Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum in Dayton.







9. Donald R. Dickson "Don"
(Not pictured)

Donald Rowe Dickson "Don" was born on 17 May 1914 in Ohio to Everett and Estella (Kamp) Dickson. In 1940, Don was still living with his parents, working as an accountant. He was married to Eva Lee and they had one daughter. 
Don left the United States on 28 Sep 1949 aboard the ship called Washington in New York City.
Don died on 01 Oct 2002 at the age of 88. He was living in London, United Kingdom. It's hard to pinpoint what Don's profession was in such a short research window, but I think he might have worked with the U.S. Consulate- he seemed to travel a lot. 
Burial is unknown.



10. Robert Duffy "Bob"

Robert Francis Duffy "Bob" was born on 01 Jun 1914 in Dayton, Ohio to James Francis Duffy and Katherine M. Spellacy. I did find one marriage record for a Francis Duffy between 1939-1941 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, but I don't think this is the same person. I don't think Bob ever married or had children. 
Bob died on 14 Nov 1968 at the age of 54. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio.




11. Dominic J. Graziano "Nick"



Dominic Graziano "Nick" was born in 1913 in Ohio to Anthony and Lucia Graziano.
In 1940, Nick was working as a stock keeper in Dayton, living with his wife, Rosemarie. By 1950, Nick and Rosemarie had 5 children, Anthony, Robert, Victoria, Dominic, and Gloria.
Nick died on 28 Jan 1974 at the age of 60. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio (no photo).


12. Alvin Horstman "Al"



Alvin Bernard Horstman was born on 15 May 1914 in Dayton, Ohio. In 1940, he was working as a hand grinder in Dayton, living with his wife Lillian (Lillian Catherine Sellet) and daughter Mariann. 
Alvin died on 19 May 1979 at the age of 65 in Broward, Florida. Burial is unknown.






13. Harold Hubler "Fat"

Harold Andrew Hubler was born was born on 08 Sep 1912 in Ohio to Victor and Mary (Hynes) Hubler. He married Agnes J. Young and they had 3 children: Sue, Mary and Robert. In 1950, the couple and their three children were living in Dayton on Highland Ave and Harold was working as an auto mechanic. 
Harold died on 22 Nov 1991 at the age of 91 and is buried beside his wife in Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio




14. Harry F. Kennel 


Harry Francis Kennel was born on 07 Jul 1914 in Dayton, Ohio to Henry Francis and Mellazene R. (Sacksteder) Kennell. Harry married Mildred Siebert and they had 2 children: Dorothy and Ronald. In 1950, Harry was living with his wife and children in Van Buren, Ohio and he was working as a clerk at the post office.
Harry died on 25 Oct 1987 in Loveland, Colorado at the age of 73. He and his wife are buried together in the Resthaven Memory Gardens in Fort Collins, Colorado. 




15. James Korte "Jim"

James Francis Korte was born on 29 Jun 1914 in Kenton, Kentucky to Henry and Frances (Worland) Korte. In high school, James seems to have been the most motivated student as he was an honor student, part of Chaminade News, C.S.P.A., Honors and Annual. 
James married Elizabeth Issemann on 10 Oct 1942 and they had 5 children- James Jr., Joseph, Mary, Rita, Kathleen and Theresa. Theresa died in 2006.
In 1950, James was living with his wife, 2 children and mother in Cuyahoga Falls, working at a Golf Oil Plant. 
James died on 05 Mar 2000 at the age of 85 and is buried beside his wife at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Erie, Michigan. 




16. John W. Kruezer 

John William Kreuzer was born on 05 Apr 1915 in Ohio to Anthony and Laura (Mensching) Kreuzer. He married Ruth Hamby on 30 Jul 1938 in Dayton and they had 2 daughters- Mary and Laura. In 1950, he and his wife and two daughters were living in Los Angeles and he was an accountant for an aircraft manufacturer. 
John died on 01 Dec 1983 in Riverside, California at the age of 69. 








17. Maurice Link

Maurice Jacob Link was born on 15 Jan 1914 in Mercer, Ohio to Jacob Valentine and Margaret (Boecke) Link. He married Mary Mouk Brehm about 1936 and they had 2 children-Carolyn and Theodore. In 1950, Maurice was working at a Motor manufacturing place. 
Maurice died on 24 Oct 1992 in Dayton, Ohio at the age of 78. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio (no photo). 







18. John C. Liszak "Johnny"

John Charles Liszak was born on 22 May 1914 in Dayton, Ohio to John Aloysius and Maria Caroline (Kuntz) Liszak. He married Mary Louise Amann on 06 Jun 1935 and they had 3 children. 
John died on 17 Apr 1997 in Clearwater, Florida at the age of 82. He and his wife are buried together in the Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor, Florida.

19. William Lockmer "Bill"

William Leo Lockmer was born on 25 Aug 1913 in Dayton, Ohio to William and Emma Lockmer. He married Violet Glee Freeman on 12 Feb 1938 in Dayton and they had 2 children: Rosemarie and William Joseph. In 1950, William was working as a shipping clerk and living in Dayton. 
William died in 2011 at the age of 98 and is buried beside his wife Violet in the Serenity Gardens Memorial Park in Largo, Florida (no photo).





20. Roland J. Mock "Buss"

Roland John Mock was born on 11 Oct 1914 in Dayton, Ohio to Joseph John and Emma (Milburn) Mock. He married twice but doesn't appear to have had any children. In 1950, he was living with his wife Helen and working as an assistant buyer tools at an electric appliances manufacturing place. 
Roland died on 18 Jul 1995 at the age of 80 and is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. 








21. Joseph Scheper "Joe"

Joseph Francis Scheper was born on 04 Sep 1914 in Covington, Kentucky to Francis and Anna Clementine (Schroderer) Scheper. He married Dorothy Mae Kimble on 05 Jun 1937 in Dayton and they had 5 children- Joseph Jr., Thomas, Jerome, Ronald and Nancy. In 1950, he was living with his family in Dayton working as a general foreman at an auto motor manufacturer. 
Joseph died on 29 Apr 1994 in Kettering, Ohio at the age of 79. Joseph is buried beside his wife Dorothy in Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio.
