I saw this gravestone this morning while browsing Facebook and with so many altered photos today, I wasn't even sure if this was a real gravestone or not, so I decided to investigate! And-- it is!

Caroline Skoruporwski was born on 18 September 1871 in Germany. She immigrated to America in 1892 and in the same year, she married her husband Fred Marklowitz (1868-1953).

I found the two of them, 8 years later living in Mayhew, Minnesota where Fred was a farmer. Fred and Caroline had 6 children at the time- Julius (age 7), Fred (age 5), Bertha (age 3), August (age 2), John (age 1) and Wilhelm (age 2 months). 

By 1910, the family is still living in Mayhew but they have 11 living children (15 born)- Juilus (age 17), Fred Jr (age 15), Bertha (age 13), August (age 11), John (age 10), Emma (age 8), Helena (age 7), Henry (age 6), Ahna (age 4), Meta (age 2) and Edward (age 0).

By 1920, Fred and Caroline have 10 children living with them- Julious (age 25), August (age 21), John (age 19), Emma (age 18), Lena (age 17) (Helen?), Henry (age 15), Alina (age 14), Mata (age 12), Olga (age 9) and Edger (age 8). 

So, did Caroline give birth to this many children? Yes, she did.

2. Augusta Marklowitz (born 1894)- died before 1900

3. Frederick William Marklowitz (1895-1977)

4. Bertha Marklowitz (1896-1985)

5. August Marklowitz (1898-1932)- died young, age 33

6. William (Wilhelm) Marklowitz (1899)- died before 1910

7. John Marklowitz (1900-1976)

8. Emma Marklowitz (1901-1938)- died young, age 37- but was married with 8 children.

9. Helen O. Marklowitz (1903-1997)

10. Henry Marklowitz (1904-1985)

11. Alma Marklowitz (born 1905)- couldn't find a death date. In 1940, she was 33 and living with the McKelvy Family as their maid.

12. Mata Marklowitz (1907-2012)

13. Edwin Marklowitz (born 1909)- died before 1910

14. Edward Marklowitz (1909-1910)

15. Boy (1910-1910)

16. Olga Marklowitz (1911-2007)

17. Edgar Marklowitz (1912-2009)

18. Sophia Marklowitz (b. 1913)- died before 1920- couldn't find much on Sophia except a possible birth record- Anita Sophia Marklowitz, born 01 Nov 1914 in Benton, Minnesota, mother's maiden name "Skarprowski", no death date.
