Sorry for the blurry picture! Here is Rose and Joseph on the front porch

Joseph’s father owned a grocery store. When he retired, Joseph took over the business. Here is a picture of Joseph and the store- Joseph is in the middle, in the back. He looks like the splitting image of my dad here J

Store was located at 1015 E. Third St. Pictured left to right- Leo Eggars, Joseph Jeckering & Frank Raab

I don’t know exactly when the store closed, but it was sometime between 1920 and 1930. By 1930, Joseph was working at Brinkman Tool & Die as a clerk in “toys” (according to the 1930 U.S. Census).

1880  (age 10) -     1011 E. Third St., Dayton, Ohio
(Same residence as the family store- family lived above the store)

1920 (age 49) -     630 McLain St., Dayton, Ohio

1930 (age 60) -     2336 Riverside Dr., Dayton, Ohio

Joseph died at the young age of 60. On 09 Feb 1931, he was walking home from work, he was crossing Webster Street in Old North Dayton and was hit by a car. The driver of the car took him to the hospital where he died later that day.

Joseph was buried on 12 Feb, 1931 in Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. He and his wife are buried side-by-side, Section 23, Lot 1 ½, space 9.
