Artists in the Family- Part 2- Paul G. Jeckering (1925-1954)
I received this wonderful article from a cousin and I am very excited to share it!
This is a article in my grandfather's high school newspaper- Chaminade News from Chaminade Catholic High School.
Paul G. Jeckering
b. 19 May 1925 in Dayton, Ohio
d. 11 Jan 1954 in Dayton, Ohio
Paul was an artist- he made sculptures and enjoyed drawing.
The words are a little difficult to read on here, so I will put a translation at the bottom for anyone who wishes to read the actual article :)
It reads:
Paul Jeckering Sculptures Statue of Fr. Chaminade
Paul Jeckering of Junior A, who has long been interested in sculpture work, recently completed a life-size statue of Father Chaminade, found of the Society of Mary. The statue, which represents about a year's work by skilled hands, was donated to Chaminade by Jeckering.
He received his experience in courses at the Dayton Art Institute and was inspired by a five year old interest in sculpture work. Up to this time he had completed only miniature projects.
The statue stands on a small square pedestal and is about five and one-half feet high. It depicts Father Chaminade holding the Constitutions of the Society of Mary in his left hand. He is dressed in cassock and stole, and on his head is worn his familiar skull cap. The statue itself is a work of simplicity, but it captures the full expression of the beloved founder.
Besides being interested in sculpture, Jeckering is also prominent in extra-curricular activities at school. He received a band letter for his services as a charter member, and was among the highest in last year's paper drive. Besides this, he is also a staff artist on the Chaminade News, and has a sketch on the sport page of this issue.
