Why I couldn't live with my ancestors...
I am completely amused by the saying"the past was a much simpler time"...because this is completely untrue. With today's technology, advancements in medicine and education, I believe I live in a much much simpler time than even when my grandmother was my age.
I was thinking about this thought this morning and I instantly came up with many reasons why I couldn't/wouldn't live among my ancestors:
Counting down....
5. Movies- Now, I know this one sounds silly compared to many other Wonderful things in this modern age, but...I can't deny the fact that I do love good movies! (I can't write "books"--those were available then!)
4. Modern Technology- (primarily household appliances like refrigerators, dishwashers, washer and dryers)- this is self-explanatory.
3. Education- I have 2 degrees and I am a wife and mother...wouldn't have happened maybe even 50 years ago! Sure, women did get college degrees 50 years ago, but not many- especially not two degrees.
2.Pain Killers- I don't take pills everyday, but I do get headaches/migraines almost everyday. I appreciate Tylenol/Excedrin very much and am thankful I have it every time I take it! I can't imagine a world where I couldn't take it when I needed it.
1. Modern Medicine- (2 parts)
1.a- my son Jack wouldn't be alive...he was born with a cleft palate and couldn't eat- couldn't provide suction to feed from a bottle. We tried coaching him for 5 weeks in the NICU, but nothing works. He ended up having a G-tube (feeding tube in his stomach) until he was 18 months old.
1.b- I wouldn't be alive...I was born a preemie- with my twin sister- and was in the NICU for 3 months because I was severely sick. I had caught a staph infection and lost a drastic amount of weight and almost died. If I were born even 50 years ago, I more than likely wouldn't have survived.

I agree! It would have been very tough to live like our ancestors. And, as you pointed out, some of us wouldn't have survived. I love our modern 'conveniences.'
